Sign him long term if he proves it again I'm not interested in another 9 year goalie search! Ya we got vasi but he has not played a game in the nhl yet.

I'm fine with giving Bishop a good contract with good term provided he can close to last seasons, but with NO NMC. Vasya is the best goalie in the world not in the NHL right now. At 18 and 19 yrs old he was rocking a league of men. Ufa wouldn't have gotten to the playoffs without him.

Great blog mike is bishop 28 now ? If so you won't have to worry about eating UFA years as he will be one regardless so if he stays the course and vasy keeps his pace would bishop agree to something like 3-4 year deal at 5.5-6.5 depending on how he does this year of course and it might seem a little steep at 6.5 but I figure less years more dollars lol

Thanks!

I think that would be ideal for the Lightning. A three or four year deal at that value would be awesome.

That won't happen he will get a 4 or 5 year deal with a NMc. We are stuck if we plan to move on from bishop then bring vasi up and start playing him this season.

We throw away a stellar kid Vasya then?

This would work provided he has a similar season as last.

No at some point bishop waives and moves someone will need a goalie. Simple you do a NMc for 3 years then 4th and 5th years a limited Ntc.

I agree. He needs a 2.35 GAA or better and at least a .920 SV%. I would overpay a tad to keep the term shorter especially with Gudlevskis and Vasilevski potentially developing into starting material.

Gudlevskis is good, but Vasya is at a whole other level.

What's your idea ? Stevie Ben we would like to sign you then trade you in two years. Ben says ok steve maybe I will test the market. So how do you sign him without a NMc ?

Much less money and a NTC or good money and no NTC. Vasya could be up soon.

What 20 year old goalie has ever started all year for a team a took them to the playoffs ? Goalies take time! Vasi needs to start in the ahl the whole 3 years! Knowing yzerman that's his plan.

Bishop will be 28. I can't really see him wanting a 3 year deal. I bet it takes a 5-6 year deal to get him to stay. If the lightning dont wanna give him term and dollar, certainly another team will.

Sign him for 6 million 5 years...

Trade him to Edmonton for Gazdic. Bishop gets 50% salary retained. And ya... Edmonton'll even send a generous 7th your way

Did the Bishop trade single handedly turn this franchise around?
looks pretty good considering Conacher just got released by the lowest scoring team in the league.

If Bishop has another season like last year I think we're in trouble. He will demand a multi-year contract around 6m+. And he know he will get it in free agency. He won't sign a bridge deal just until vasi is ready. If he signs long term just to be traded in a couple of seasons, why not hit free agency and get bigger dollars with a team that needs him for the next 6-7 years.

I would sign him right now to a 5y/25m contract if he would take it. If he keeps his numbers up that will be a steal and we can get a really solid return in 4 years, IF vasi is ready then. If bishops numbers drop it still won't be an albatross with a rising cap, and it wouldn't be untradeable in 4 years.
